It's Wednesday...

Angelic Angel

Mummy Cat has been renamed to Angel for her angelic temperament. Uncle Y and I saw her last night and applied some antiseptic on her sterilisation wound which is a little pinkish.

Viki now known as Prata

We have also decided to rename Viki to Prata since he was found at the Prata shop.

Darling little Cas

Cas is such a sweet and adorable little girl. She was singing away when I saw her and was happily galloping next to me to ask for dinner. Yum!

Jasper

"Can you pls stop poking at my eye?"

Jasper and Cas look almost alike but Jasper is older and is a boy (Cas is a girl). I found him with some minor scratch wounds on his back last night. There were also some gooey stuff on his right eye, which I managed to remove 90%. I couldn't clear all as he started protesting.

Finally, thank goodness the cats are all still fine as of this morning. So jittery!

The Culling Begins...

Maomao, just as freaked out . "Arh!! Am I in danger??!!"

My nightmare begins TODAY.

The culling exercise on unsterilised cats in my my estate offically commences today. I fear so much for our lovely cats' safety (even for the sterilised ones). I'm totally freaked! I'm keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed!

Update [21/08/06]: Received news from fellow caregiver at 1.50pm the pest control people are in action this morning at Blk 86X. Many more men involved compared to usual three. Am very worried.

Update [22/08/06]: Phew. Gracious. My cats are still around. So worried they may be "accidentally kidnapped".

Update [24/08/06]: These few days have been hard to survive. Every step towards home (I feed on my way home) is an unsettling one - am so afraid my darling kitties are gone. Thank god they are still fine. I decided to be extra vigilant during this period by keeping a lookout for any leftover food (for the cats) and will throw them away if I do see one. So far, only once this morning. Wonder who left the food. Uncle Y has also been helping to monitor leftovers at Angel's area. Hopefully, this bit of effort will help. As of yesterday, understand from a fellow caregiver that no cats from our area have been sent to Pasir Panjang. Pls continue to pray for our cats' safety.

Update [29/08/06]: All is well... except we couldn't find Cas sweetheart. Hope this little one is well and fine.

Update [30/08/06]: Am on leave today. Was looking for Maomao to give her brunch when I sighted a suspicious looking lorry with some indian & malay men (they looked like locals & were lunching in the back of the lorry). I noted the plate no. just in case & also secretly took a pic. I hope they are not from the pest control! I quickly took Maomao (who was near them) to the other side of the blk.
Mummy Cat [now renamed Angel] was released on 19 Aug night. She's doing well and has remained where she was. What a relief!

Managed to apply some antiseptic cream on Maomao's wound last evening without her putting up a struggle. Phew. Tubbs was with her. They are a handsome couple if you ask me. Hope to apply the cream for Maomao twice a day. I didn't see Cinder last night but believe he is alright as Uncle Y fed him. Uncle Y was taking a stroll in the park when I called him.

Picking up Mummy Cat this evening. Looking forward to seeing her with tipped ear! = )

Woman strangled & robbed in Seletar West

Saw this on Channel 8 News tonight [17/08/06].

How awful & terribly wicked of the robber to injure the lady so badly!

This kind lady was on her way home late at night after feeding her two community cats at the very deserted Seletar West Farmway 4 when she was attacked from behind. Now in ICU in TTSH. I hope the robber is arrested soon and the victim recover soon.

  • Article from The Straits Times (18-Aug-06)

  • Maomao is injured

Spotted a recently inflicted wound under Maomao's right ear, with fresh blood - I guess as a result of some fights. There were also scratches on her nose and just below her eyes. Just the day before, she was spotted with a drier but still wet wound (with no blood) under the same ear. I wonder who she fought with. There were no visible wounds on Tubbs or Cinder, so likely not them.

Wound on 17 Aug 06, Thurs night

UPDATE: Wound on 18 Aug 06, Fri morning
Good morning! Breakfast for Maomao & Tubbs... Yum.

    Trapping Mummy Cat

    Mummy Cat

Trapping was smooth tonight. Mummy Cat was most cooperative, probably due to her familiarity with Uncle Y. She was as gentle as Uncle Y described. Very sad to note her last remaining adorable kitten was gone. Mummy Cat's a very good mother. She took very good care of her little one before it went missing on National Day.

We were at the vet in Choa Chu Kang by 8.30pm. This is my first visit to this vet and I must say I am rather impressed with the clinic. Very clean, bright and pleasant. The receptionist, Jolene was as pleasant.

Uncle Y and me plan to discharge Mummy Cat on Sat evening.

UPDATE [17/08/06]: I called the vet to enquire on Mummy Cat and was informed she's doing well. Am glad!
My darling little one snoozing inside her carrier...
those damaged parts are her Art & Craft.

Snoozing without a care in the world...
with her favourite & badly damaged & smelly soft toy.

Serving "jail term" with Queenie for being mischievous...

Cinder feeling lethargic after a hearty dinner.

Then he heard some suspicious noise and Vvvrrrooom...
    he dashed into the bushes.

Here's Maomao waiting for me on a National Day morning.

And here's Cinder on a National Day night. Now sterilised.

Something's happening where I live. The TC will be conducting a major culling exercise beginning third week of this month. I wonder why. Some fellow caregivers are desperately racing against time to sterilise. Cinder is one of those they did. I'm guilty of not keeping up but that doesn't mean I don't care as much. I will be helping Uncle Y to sterilise a mummy cat whose cute kitten went missing on National Day (so sad). Must be very distressing for mummy cat to lose her only kitten left. I heard from Uncle Y mother & child are amazingly close. I do pray hard that the little one re-appears soon.

Tears in Heaven - In memory of Hazel

I wish I didn't have to find out the truth but I guess Hazel wants me to, so that G and I can stop searching, so that we can move on. Hazel decided that last night will be the night for us to know. To know that she has gone to heaven.

I was on my way home after the night search when I saw Uncle Y and Indra in a discussion. Next to them was a young cat who appeared to be injured. The cat couldn't even stand. We think she may have been hit by a vehicle. Other than not being able to stand, she looked quite fine. Funny thing was, the cat was staring in a particular direction throughout and I decided to find out what she was staring at. She was looking at the cleaner. I gasped. I ran to him and showed him Hazel's lovely pics and asked if he knew what happened. After thinking for a while, he mentioned a cat died at the TV repair shop (near Hazel's hangout) 3 days ago. The cat looked like Hazel. My heart sank with a speed you cannot imagine. He took a second look and said "Look like this one. They (the TV repair shop) asked me to take the body but I never. Under TV." The timing fits. My heart crashed to the bottom with a loud thud, I felt it almost stop beating.

At that point, I could no longer control my emotions. I burst out crying. I apologised to Indra in between sobs and tears and excused myself. I stood at a corner to cry my heart out. I later called G to break her the news. I knew that G would be a hundred times sadder than me. She was Hazel's main caregiver. At 1.35am, G text me "am crying my heart out for Hazel...she was such an affectionate girl..." I started crying again.

I felt somehow that all these has been arranged by Hazel.

I always say that Hazel is too beautiful and sweet to be living a life as a stray. Maybe heaven agreed and decided to adopt her.

As for the injured cat, Indra will bring her home.

Hazel lives in our hearts forever.

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven.

    Time can bring you down,
    time can bend your knees.
    Time can break your heart,
    have you begging please,
    begging please.

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more
    tears in heaven.

Rest in peace Hazel. You'll be missed dearly.

    Hey Pixie!

I am very thankful to Esther & Colin. I want to thank them for opening their hearts and giving such a good and loving home to Pixie, one of my favourite ex-community cat. Pixie now has a safe place to hang out, gets good healthy food and has three younger friends to play with. In return, she makes herself useful by being a live alarm each morning for mummy and daddy. It really warms my heart to receive news about her.

I wish I could find good homes for Yoyo and Hazel too. If you know of good & responsible owners like Pixie's parents looking for a feline family member, please do ask them to consider Yoyo & Hazel.

Pixie at my home temporarily after sterilisation.

    Top of the world...

    Macy, Tracie & Boy

I think I am going to faint.

Just when I thought we had one less stray doggy to worry over, here comes Tracie who quite resembles Macy.

    This is Tracie.

    Tracie is a girl.

This is Macy. I have not seen her for quite some time.

And this is Boy who is now in a foster home.

All three of them appeared within a span of one month which to me, is highly unusual. I have been staying at my estate for 20 years but have never seen something like that. Me and a few caregivers suspect that they may have come from the reservoir which is nearby. We keep our fingers crossed that there won't be a fourth!

    In memory of Tiffy

** This section is dedicated specially to dear Tiffy & the ever wonderful 5-Cat Style. 5-Cat Style, you have done your best. You've been the best foster mummy Tiffy could ever have. **

TODAY is a very very sad day.

    Tiffy

You'll be dearly and sorely missed

    RIP Tiffy

    5-Cat Style lost lovely Tiffy.

I cried. I felt sad. I felt angry. I felt disappointed. I felt like bashing M's dad up. I felt like screaming into his face and giving him as many slaps as my hand could manage. I share 5-Cat Style's grief and sorrow. Tiffy lost her young innocent life as a result of irresponsible pet ownership. I am totally disgusted with irresponsible pet owners. It is the owner's fault if his or her pet is urinating or defecating inappropriately (in Tiffy's case). Blaming the pet for not being intelligent or not being capable of learning, in my opinion, is the lamest excuse one could ever conjure. I've said this before and I'm still preaching this - pet ownership is a lifetime of responsibility. Your pet stays with you, in wealth and in poverty, in sickness and in health. It is utterly important to consider carefully before you commit. Pet ownership is more than just playing and having fun and keeping you company when you are lonely.

Tiffy was such a sweet kitten. She could have easily found another home with her good looks. Why didn't M's dad give Tiffy a chance to find another home? Why did he send her to her death? How could something so terrible happened to her? Why did things go so wrong? So many "why" and "how" but any answers provided will now be useless - Tiffy is never going to come back.

Tiffy now joins Velvet, Tango, Cotton, Dim Sum, Fudge, Fussypot, Wei-wei and many others in a very wonderful place, a place where they would never be unwanted and abandoned, a place where they will never be injured or sick, a place filled with love and happiness - the Rainbow Bridge.

Tiffy will be dearly and sorely missed by those who loved her.

Take care 5-Cat Style. Rest in peace Tiffy.

    Remember Yoyo?

Going to be 5 months old.

This is a recent pic of Yoyo who was found with a dislocated pelvis as a very young kitten in Apr 06. Look at how much she has grown under foster mummy's loving care. Besides surgery for the dislocated pelvis, Yoyo is also unfortunate to have gone through a second surgery to amputate one of her toes from an accident at home. Though she has been through so much at such tender age of 2 months, Yoyo remains cheerful, playful and optimistic. She is looking for a good forever home to go to (we sincerely hope she need not go back to the harsh streets anymore since she has already suffered so much). Foster mummy has another cat with long-term illness to care for and is unable to keep Yoyo with her. Yoyo is now healthy, litterbox-trained and is sterilised.

    Brief sequence of events:-

11 Apr - Found limping badly. Very frightened and hid in an aircon compressor compartment and refuse to emerge. Her age is estimated to be around 2 months old.

12 Apr - G managed to find her lying in the middle of the street.

13 Apr - Visited the vet who informed us that Yoyo has a dislocated pelvis. Surgery required asap.

    15 Apr - Surgery.

17 Apr - Discharged from the vet. Physiotherapy required daily (administered by kind foster mummy, G).

27 Apr - Follow up consultation.

7 May - Undergone 2nd surgery to amputate her injured toe from an accident. Sterilised at the same time.

Do you have a little extra room in your heart to share with Yoyo?

Yoyo has been through a harsh and painful "childhood". Can she need not go back to the streets?

True love does not despise how one looks or lacks.

Can you give Yoyo her happily ever after?
